The Youngsters

pict Interview mit Oliver M von den "Youngsters" im Oktober 2001:

01. Why is it that you make music?
I started to play the piano at 6. Then I discovered stuff like Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode ... and I wanted to do that! Later, I discovered LFO, Inner City (Kevin Saunderson) or Laurent Garnier and I really started to make electronic music. Gil, the second Youngsters is a DJ since more than 10 years. He has a big experience of the dance-floor and a big musical culture ...

02. What are you listen to as privat person?
We listen to many records every week because of Gil´s records shop in Montpellier. Of course we love the techno from detroit but we really listen to everything we can in a day. Techno music, house music, some weird stuff ... We also like more pop stuff like Bjork, Depeche Mode or Radiohead.

03. First record you bought?
A french shit! Maybe, the first important record I bought was Oxygene by Jean Michel Jarre ... Sorry, I really don't know the first Gil's one! Maybe the Stranglers or something from the early 80ies

04. Your experiences on tour till now - because you aren' t daft punky-y or air-y? How do the people react on your style?
We construct our live like a concert where we can play with the public and share something... so the react is pretty good. We are bowerred by the live performances with a single person static behind a laptop during one hour.

05. What' s your comment on the past, present and future of electronic music?
The past was very good. The roots of electronic music are our first inspiration. The present is interesting because people are more and more curious and open minded. For the future: ?

06. Your most beautiful or exciting gig?
The Sonar Festival in Barcelona. More than 10000 people were in the main room. The sound was excellent. We were very happy to be there so our performace was very ... Rock'n'Roll!!!

07. A classic record?
Too hard question!

08. Why do you release on Laurent Garniers Label? Is there a special reason?
I think he likes our music and, of course, we have much respect for him and his label. It's great for us to be a part of this family.

09. What was your inspiration for producing?
Our first influence is the techno from detroit because we like the bridge it makes between the european music and the black soul music. It's a kind of synthesis ... We're also very inspired by stuff like LFO, Kraftwerk or Modern German producers like Johannes Heill, Frank Müller ... the list is maybe too long!

10. Comment on the state of the world at the moment?!
I am very afraid ...

"Youngsters" veröffentlichten im September 2001 das Album "Lemonorange" (Label: F Communications)
