Interview with George Roll on April 2001, Chief of Tunnel Records, of the
Events called "Tunnel" and of the Tunnel Media Marketing (Tunnel Medien Vertrieb (TMV)):
* This year you are celebrating for the very first time on Ibiza. How did you get that idea?
I have been celebrating on Ibiza for many years and I have got some friends who live here the whole year through. The island ist simply a dream in all sences and I love to be here. Thus it was a tiny step together with Juan Medrano to organize the TUNNEL@PRIVILEGE Parties for every Tuesday of the summer 2001.
* There are also the Cocoon and the Nature One on Ibiza. For what reasons should people come just to your place?
Well I know that people here are always wooping it up. But the music of the TUNNEL TRANCE FORCE is not represented at all - but a lot of the kids want to hear our sound and here it is.
* Your compilation Ç Tunnel Trance Force È respectivly "DJ Networx" exists now since years and every compilation gets into the charts. Did you expect such a great success over so many years?
Well you know, I do not think that one can expect anything. As we were sitting together with the Sony Music Media, of course, we had this in our minds. But
we all were anyway very enthusiastic about the fact that the TUNNEL TRANCE FORCE and DJ NETWORX managed to appear amongst the top ten of the charts meanwhile with the volume 16 and 9.
* I am sure you do not relax upon the successes. What are the next plans for CDs or Vinyl?
Right, we keep on trying to produce some good compilations. But there are still some projects for singles going on quite well for instance the TUNNEL ALLSTARS and we want to keep on working on it in the near future.
* Your "TUNNEL CLUB" in St. Pauli had to get closed in the year 2000. Your new "homebase" now is called La Cage. Is that a good replacement?
The new Tunnel, the La Cage at the Reeperbahn in Hamburg, is more spacious and both dance-floors and better divided one from another which is favourable for the acoustics. People feel good in La Cage and I think that is was not a bad exchange.
* The G_Move (The counterpart of Berlin's Love Parade) takes place at June the 2nd 2001 in Hamburg. What do you intend to do (lorry, party ...)?
Of course, we will be there participating. Together with some clubs of the region like the Newbambu, the Metropol and the Maxx Music Hall the Tunnel Club will be present on a big lorry and celebrate vigorously. Subsequently we will start the G-Move afterparty in the Tunnel.
* Loveparade 2001 in Berlin: I have heard there will not be a Loveexpress from Hamburg to Berlin. Why not?
Well, being franc, if you want to know it exactly, the one and only reason for this decision is the incredible incompetence and infinit slackness of the German Railways. You can not work with such a "club", never again. If they are going get private one day, then I will be glad to work with them again, but with those organisation-hoodlems no way.
* But anyway you will participate, perhaps again as Number 1?
We would love to take participation to the Love Parade. For me it is the mega-party on our planet and I simply must be there to celebrate.
* What about the ³Tunnel Energyã drink? How long has it been there and how do further plans look like?
There was a time where we did not like the over-sugared energy-drinks anymore so we got together and produced our own energy-brew. The price is fair
and it tastes very good. Not only the Tunnel-fans like it but apparently lots of other people, too. We will see what is going to happen to the TED. More information under www.tunnel.de
