1.55am Get met at Shindig by resident DJ Scooby. There's a guy licking the sweat off the glass door on the way to the dancefloor. This should be good
2.15am It looks like someone has gone around emptying buckets of water over everyone. There's a wild, chemical energy to the crowd: tops-off air beaters, retro punks, starey-eyed podium girls and rampant snoggers. Anthony Pappa, who's slamming on some brutal trance-house, has them doing 'the whiplash'
2.45am Anthony Pappa's set is getting harder and faster. Everyone is either throwing shapes, or hugging each other. At 3am, blinded by the house lights we wade across the sea of empty water bottles, and leave the club
John Digweed on Shindig
"The Shindig crowd are excellent, I can't play there enough. I've always found that the North East is very receptive to new music. They like it nice and dubby to start with, moving into darker house then up to more progressive sounds. I always have a good time, and the promoters Scott and Scooby are top lads.
