Techno Link Tips   [ english | deutsch ]

1. The Categories:
1.1. All Links:
displays all the addresses that have been entered.
1.2. New Links:
displays all recently entered addresses.
1.3. Add Links:
allows you to enter new addresses. See the "Rules" section for more information on entering new addresses.
1.4. Domains:
addresses for which the domain name is also the address:
"www.techno.de" is a domain;
"members.aol.com/user" is an AOL site rather than a domain in itself.
1.5. Country:
the country where the site is administered from, except in the case of fanpages. For a fanpage, the artist's home country is used, not the page owner's.
1.6. Category:
he site's main category. (See also "Rules")
1.7. Search:
search engine. The search is case-insensitive (Capitals and lower-case letters may be used interchangeably). Search fields include: URL, Title and Description.
Symbols:
"^" placed BEFORE a key word indicates the beginning of the word
(ex: "^man" will find "MANifold," but NOT "DiscoMANia.")

"$" placed AFTER a key word indicates the end of the word
(ex: "records$" will find "R & S RECORDS," but NOT "Now! RECORDStore.")

" " (Space) If you are searching for a phrase or multiple words separated by spaces and nothing is found containing all of the words, the search will be shortened word for word from the end until a result can be found. You will receive no results ONLY if the first word canNOT be found.

1.8. Rules:
the rules for entering addresses. We reserve the right to edit entries according to THESE rules, so read them carefully.
1.9. Tips:
You're looking at them. This page. These tips are here to help you navigate the Bookmarks as sucessfully as possible.
1.10. Contact:
2. Your Results:
2.1. Length:
Your results are limited to 25 Bookmarks per page.
2.2. Turning Pages:
Use the button to flip ONE page ahead, the button to flip FOUR pages ahead and to flip to the last page. The same goes for the reverse buttons. An icon will disappear if you cannot use it (for example, if you are on the last page, only the reverse buttons will appear).
2.3. Sorting:
At the top of each page there is a bar with "Name," "URL" and "Vote." By clicking on these buttons, you can sort your results by the corresponding category. The new sort will be displayed in a lighter gray area and will apply to all pages. Your results will be sorted by vote unless you select another preference.
2.4. Voting:
You may vote for as many sites as you wish, but you may only vote for a site once. You can vote positively if you like the site, or negatively if you don't. Please be fair and vote without prejudice, even for sites outside of your musical preferences. Some suggestions to base your vote on:
Content (is it up-to-date, manifold and complete?)
Graphics (are they engaging, but not too big?)
Usefulness (does it provide information, sounds, searches, or let you order products, etc...?)
Important: base your evaluation on ONLINE factors. For example: don't give a positive rating to a weak site just because it's run by a phat label. And please give private and commercial entrants the same chance!
2.5. Info:
Java Script-enabled browsers can click on the icon to open a window with all the info about a bookmark at a glance.
2.6. Statistics:
statistics appear on the left under the functions. The number "Found" shows how many links will appear. "Page [x/y]" shows you where you are at (x) out of (y) total pages.
3. Save:
the "Save" function lets you save your results onto your personal "Bookmarks" file. Caution: at this time, this function is only available to Mac and ALLE users. With a correctly configured browser, you can save a "bookmarks.html in Netscape format. Pull out the file, quit your browser, save your "old" "bookmarks.html" and put the new file into the folder given below, then restart your browser.
	Platform	Encoding	Folder
	Windows PC	.zip ???
	Macintosh	.hqx System Folder: Preferences:Netscape:
	UNIX .tar ~/.netscape/

Alternatively, you can import the Techno Bookmark Files. Read your browser's documents on "importing files" for help. Microsoft Internet Explorer can read this format as well.
4. Tricks:
To open the URL in a new window (for the newest version of Netscape): Move the cursor to the URL you want, then:
Windows: hold down the right mouse button until a menu appears,
then choose "New window with this link."
Mac: hold down the mouse button until the menu appears, then
click on "New window with this link."
UNIX: click the middle mouse button.
With a 2 button mouse, click the left and right buttons
together, or hold down the right mouse button until a menu
appears, then choose "Open link in new window."

5. Q & A:
Question: Why doesn't the pulldown menu work when I pick the first choice on the list (ex: "Artist" under Category or "Argentina" under Country).

Answer: This happens because of a JavaScript error in a few browsers. If nothing happens when you pick the first choice under a category, click the button next to the pulldown menu.

Question: My browser doesn't have JavaScript. What should I be aware of when using the Bookmarks?

Answer: You shouldn't have any problems. The only function you can't use is the info-window. Also, with the pulldown menues, you will have to click on after making your choice to start the query.
